Invaders would like to comment on the exciting finish to the Warrior Clip game this evening as I'm sure most of you were watching the Blazers lose to the Lakers-The Warrior were in a tight game in the 4th quarter that was won w/defense and coaching of Jackson-this is an example of what doesn't show up in the box score-Dominic McGuire essentially won this game-he's a 6-8 tweener who can do everything but shoot-he shut down Paul on a key possession blocking his shot 1 on 1 he was mostly responsible for holding CP3 scoreless in the final 12 minutes-then he replaced Udoh at Center when he got hurt-then Jackson successfully rotated Nate Robinson and McGuire on offensive and defensive plays during a 9-0 run to end the game-Monta also had several late key defensive stops most memorable of which was forcing Blake Griffin to throw away a pass late in the game...

I always appreciate a good hoops story regarding the McGuires. The one I saved was written by my former pal Mike Crosby for SI. It was about the Rockaway Beach hoop scene in the Irish part of town back in the fifties. Cousey would represent Manhattan there. The passing game then would make the legends from the Rucker Tournaments and thereafter seem deficient.

Ticket says I'm 52 today.

Tom Invaders have read many stories about the McGuires and the Rockaway beach hoops scenes of the late 40'a and early 50's-but couldn't have our relatives from the Bronx and Brooklyn stayed w/those Irish guys? The NBA was very Jewish then.I still think other than the Cousy style passing the Rucker league(The Times just had an article about Rucker actually being the first black player before Sweetwater Clifton on the Knicks but he got cut in training camp in 1950)-Philly's Baker league where Earl Monroe first became famous when home from Winston-Salem State and later DC's urban coalition summer tournaments have it beat

Invaders wish Tom a happy birthday-wish I was 52 again(that was my last year living in NY)

Invaders need Charlotte and Toronto scoring to finish our box scores-the birthday boy Tom looks like a winner w/ 214 vs. Kontrol

Invaders forgot E lost to Kontrol last match thereby killing my attempt and Linsanity w/2 game "Lin streak" comment-oh well 2 Lins out of 3 ain't bad

Thanks for well wishes. I commend the bottom feeders for subdue-ing my rivals. Baker League in Philly? Who was Baker? The same Baker Bowl where the A's and/or Phillies played.

More on the Irish. Twin brothers Ed & I think John O'Brien had a brief cup of coffee with the Pirates as a DP combo. They appeared on the same baseball card in '54.

Final Ticket 214 Kontrol 181 Ticket(Wade-49..Pekovic-16..Tim-32..Milsap-29..Josh-39-DWill-49)Kontrol(1451/8)Dave's Nitecaps take high scoring honors w/224-Baker league has since been moved and expanded to Toms River New Jersey(Al Leiter's home town) not sure who Baker was but I'd bet like Rucker he must have been an early playing legend that helped kids in the inner city by starting tournaments

Hoop Social said...

Invaders just read that the Baker league was changed to the Sonny Hill league in Philly in the 80's Baker wasn't a player after all just a fan who helped set up pro-am summer tournaments-Earl the pearl became legendary there in the 60's-I saw a documentary on it once and they called Earl Jesus because fans believed he could walk on water-they played gospel music while showing highlights of his great one on one moves
