Ticket asks Invincibles
Does the late Jim Fregosi deserve, despite his 50 years in baseball, comparison to NY Times' Garibaldi Society of great San Franciscan Italians Joe, Vince and who cares about Dom DiMaggio,Tony Lazzerri,Frank Crosetti,Jim Gentile and Ping Bodie? Does he rank with with San Mateo'S Juniperro Serra Hi legends Lynn Swan, Tom Brady and Barry Bonds? Personally Fregosi's replacement on the Met roster is my only reason for avoiding Italian food, trips and women...but what do I know?

replacement for Nolan Ryan, not to mention allowing Wild Thing Mitch Williams, the waanabe Dave Williams, to drliver the only walmofc homer to end a World Series, thus resulting in an attack on his home in Philly.

In the mid 60's Fregosi and Bobby Knoop were considered the 2nd best dp combo behind only Pitt. keystone duo Mazeroski and Gene Alley. The only ss who was a better hitter at the time (64/65/66)was the Twins Zolio Versalles who won the MVP one year.Fregosi is unfortunately blamed for the ill fated Ryan deal he was a bit of a drinker and ladies man that lead to his early deterioration as a player despite a long career. All in all he would seem to deserve to rank rather high on any list of prominent SF athletes I'd like to point out that the great Italian Cincy Red catcher Ernie Lombardi who was from Oakland was arguably the best hitting backstop ever(check his numbers)the most famous Berkeley born Italian player was Alfred Manuel Pesano better known by his adopted name Billy Martin

E Team says:

Some heavyweight tilts to begin the stretch run. Can the E Team close the gap on the struggling Invaders?
The XMan and Ticket take on the red-hot Swat and Sockeye respectively. And the Germans look to make a move out of the cellar.

Durant, ADave, Duncan, Kemba, Oladip, Tobias

Get about it, lads.

Ticket says
Lombardi's snooze as Country Slaughter scores from first on a single to win the '48 Series was it? That epic failure by an Italian from the land of plenty is unmatched by even the Ryan trade for Fregosi. Eric claims Sid Bream scoring on Bonds to help win the '91 pennant reflects a tragic standing among baseball legends.

Also, Belanger and Dave Johnson was a combo that could stand up to your Jimmys Fregosi and Durante-Knoop. Fregosi a slicker fielder than '66 Oriole ring bearer Luis Aparicio? Saw Luis and Brooks in an old timer's game at Camden Yards.

No! Slaughter scored on Pesky. How did Lombardi let a second runner score? Was it a Yank?

I was saying Lombardi is the greatest pure hitter among catchers-it's true he wasn't great defensively and was slow like most at his position but he could hit!!
