Four Hawks on the all star team....Walt Bellamy,Pete Maravich, Lou Hudson and Herm Gilliam the Blazer ring bearer? No? How about Tree Rollins, Kevin Willis, Dominique Wilkins and point guard Eddie Johnson? No? Don't tell me Ashton Kutcher look alike Kyle Korver and Johnny "Green Giant" sized Paul Milsap, Al, not Tito, Horford and Jeff Teague. These guys must be the under the radar all-time team, at least since Brad Daugherty,Larry Nance,Ron Harper and Mark Price. Current Hawk. DeMarre Carroll and late 80'S Cav Mike Sanders not in the scope of an all star lineup. Gotta figure that has never happened unless maybe the '83 76ers with Blazer alumnus Moses Malone,Mo Cheeks,Lionel Hollins and ABA guys Dr. J and Bobby Jones if memory serves me correctly.
Just sent out the Match 31 standings. Yo, we may lose our last 190-a-game scorer with another sub-par outing by the Germans. What a weird season. Good balance, good races down the stretch, but what is up with the scoring?
Mark? Any explanation? It's like global warming or something.
Speaking of which, my son and I are down on the Oregon coast for a couple days, where the weather was in the mid-70s yesterday. Good lord. I took a dip in the ocean, then walked around in my trunks and a t-shirt. Not kidding.
We also watched the movie 21 Jump Street in the motel last night. I thought I was gonna rupture myself laughing.
My theory on the scoring drought has to do with time micromanagement it's like our discussion about resting stars at the end of the season when the playoffs are clinched. If you examine how teams are now allocating minutes it's truly an astonishing change. While the 8-9 man core rotation holds when the games are on the line there's enough talent disparity in the league that teams are earlier in the season trying out new talent/Dleague guys/2nd and 3rd year guys who's rookie contracts are up/coaxing fewer minutes out of older guys/etc.So essentially just as pitchers arms are being managed by pitch counts so too are NBA players knee problems coaxed through a season and plantar fascitis potential monitored.Minutes just aren't as predictable.Even Lebron has to be limited now.Teams have begun to adhere to a diluted version of the Spurs approach by limiting veteran minutes not sitting out games but cutting playing time to have the same effect. There also appears to be just like in baseball a new more serious use of statistical analysis in basketball.Brent Barry was commenting on this change jut the other day.He suggested that this coincides with the change in offenses where the offensive 3 second rule has ended the simplistic clear a side for the main guy to go 1 on 1 (although Harden's Rockets still play that way).Barry also said that offensive movement has slowly evolved since that rule change to become more complicated resulting in greater scoring distribution.
I missed the all star game I was camping at Castle Crags state park over the holiday weekend it was great. The water in the upper Sacramento was rushing too fast for fly fishing.Hiking was great but muddy in spots. It was 70 degrees by day but in the 30's at night. That far north in California is essentially Oregon or perhaps Jefferson the state the people there want to become.
The Wingos hit double figures in wins with their second MHS -- what a world! Unless we get more news from Melo, Wingos start their blistering hot second half with: 1 - Paul 2 - Oladipo 3 - Melo 4 - Millsap 5 - Bosh U - West
Ticket says I go to work outside counting pedestrians when it is 18 degrees, wait an hour for a half mile bus ride, then return home since it was too late to work. Now I trot out trade bait: Monroe Knight Gay not rumored on rotoworld. Durant Harden Whiteside
Excellent observations as always Mark. I saw yesterday a job on Craigslist NYC for Manhattan under part time or etc.:Baseball fantasy league writer.Might work for you.
Ticket says King Karl says he wants another shot at a title. It was said "During the reign of King Carl Hubbel, first base itself is a marathon." That goes too for Karl's title hope with the King.
Just saw that Jerome Kersey died tonight.I met and spoke with him 3 times once in Portland at a Japanese restaraunt once in Scottsdale at PF Chang's along with Dusty Baker during Spring training (Warriors had Kersey that year and they played the Suns) and once in Oakland at the Marriott that last time he said "why do you look familiar I've met you before?"Sad he's dead was only 52.He came a long way from Longwood College in Virginia!
He epitomized the ideal player who could outrun or outrebound anyone. A third of the six are gone from my favorite team in sports history. Tickets to see them helped me become secure financially for a quarter century.
I liked Shutter Island as well DiCaprio was at his best in the Aviator as Hughes and his southern plantation owner in Django was great as was his over the top performance in Wolf of Wall Street. He is a tremendous actor.
1-Lawson 2-Klay 3-Butler 4-A Davis 5 -M Gasol 6 - Lowry
Kersey was/is the man. He got it. Nice, classy, took the time of day to make people feel good, understood the importance of the Portland community and his huge role in it. Horribly sad.

that post I did on the scoring above should have read change in the "defensive 3 second rule" not offensive

Given the new Melo update, Wingos update their roster by putting Trevor Ariza in at the 3.

RIP Jerome. A good ballplayer and good man.
And while we're on the downbeat, my son and I, while vacationing at the beach, watched the Scorcese/DiCaprio collaboration Shutter Island.
Wow. Intense. Creepy. Sad. DiCap is a god. The best actor in America. Also enjoyed, as always, my Mark Ruffalo. One of my favorites.
He epitomized the ideal player who could outrun or outrebound anyone. A third of the six are gone from my favorite team in sports history. Tickets to see them helped me become secure financially for a quarter century.
