Like soap opera star Eric Braeden when his name was still Hans Gutegast, battling the power-mad robot in Colossus: The Forbin Project, the E Team takes on Kontrol with this assemblage:
Invaders love the imagery E conjures for his battle w/Kontrol(wasn't it Don Adams' CIA-like organization in "Get Smart"?)I equate this battle w/an opponent more along the lines of Robby the robot who debuted in the 50's classic "Forbidden Planet"starring my former aunt by marriage Anne Francis,Walter Pidgeon and a young serious Leslie Nielsen battling unseen psychological terror(Robby guest starred on "Lost in Space" but never uttered "danger Will Robinson")..Invaders go w/Howard/P,Gasol/Granger/Nash/Terry and my new star Beasley(42 last night)-or maybe Kontrol is more like De Niro's version of Frankenstein in the Kenneth Branagh film??
Anne Francis?! Are you kidding me? My first TV crush (ahead of the gravel-voiced Suzanne Pleschette, best known then as a member of the Quinn-Martin stock company (The Fugitive, The FBI, and - here's one for you, Mark - The Invaders).
I remember having a dream (oddly enough, when I was staying at my aunt's in Berkeley) that Anne Francis and Earl Holliman, who played her sidekick on the TV series Honey West, were my parents instead of my actual mom and dad. That was cool. (Not that there's anything wrong with my real parents.)
The aforementioned Braeden/Gudegast was, of course, Commander Dietrich on "The Rat Patrol."
And Mark, you've got the Get Smart thing mixed up slightly. Maxwell Smart worked for Contol. His nemesis was Kaos. I borrowed the evil K when creating my own Frankenstein, Kontrol.
Invaders did say "Don Adams"CIA-like organization on Get Smart-Anne Francis was married in the early 60's(divorced when I was 9 or 10)to the son of my Grandpa Max Abeloff(he was my real maternal grandmother's 3rd husband so no blood relationship)Honey West's sidekick wasn't Earl Holliman-it was John Ericson playing "Sam"-Holliman though did appear in "Forbidden Planet" so you may have transposed these..I prefered Combat to Rat Patrol but the latter was good too.The Fugitive and Twilight Zone are my 2 favorite shows from childhood-since you created Kontrol you're really Mary Shelley's creation Dr.Frankenstein while I guess I'm Roy Thinnes looking for aliens w/crooked fingers..
I thought you were comparing me-via Invaders reference?Invaders comes from my 80's USFL team-I think you guys had Portland Breakers but that might have been 70's WFL...I'm fairly positive on Ericson because I was a big fan of the show because iof the family connection-I remember the kids on the playground wouldn't believe me when I told them that my aunt was Honey West-but I'll look it up.perhaps they were both in it?
Eric-Invaders suggest if you go to wikipedia for Anne Francis it mentions that she was married to Dr.Robert Abeloff from 60-64-son of my step-grandfather- if you hit the Honey West link in her bio it takes you to the article for the original 50's novel-then hit the tv series link in that article and it lists John Ericson as the co-star.Interesting footnote she and Charles Bronson appeared in a final season episode of the Fugitive in '67..

John Ericson?! I was sure it was Earl Holliman. Wow. Here's where it gets weird. John Ericson, like Hans Gudegast, was German-born!
And Mark, I'm pretty sure you're the first person I ever heard compare himself to Roy Thinnes.
