Invaders-Ticket...Swat-P4...Wingos-Nitecaps...ETeam-Kontrol....good luck to all those teams fighting for the final big dance playoff seeds in this final regular season match
Hey, I've been wanting to bring up the matter of various tie-breaking scenarios, given the close race we've seen coming down the stretch: regular-season winner, 2 vs. 3, last playoff spot, etc. Mostly stuff has been sorted out, but one potential rules question still looms. The good news is that we already have the answer.
If the No. 2 and No. 3 finishers in the regular season end up with identical records, the No. 2 team earns the second place prize money, if there is any, and the official No. 2 seed, based on the points tiebreaker. The double jeopardy advantage, however, goes away, and the two teams play a straight best-of-three to advance to the final. It has happened before and this was our ruling, so there is no need to debate it. I think the consensus was that the double jeopardy is too big of an advantage to give to a team that hadn't won any more games than its opponent. In theory, the higher scoring team should win in a series, I think the thinking went. Anyway, we ruled the way we did. I suppose we could review the thing, but it seems kinda last minute and there is the established precedent.
Swat is currently in 2nd place and Wingo will not come close to catching him on points. Of course, either team could win 2nd place outright - Swat has the tougher opponent in P4, while Wingo gets the Nitecaps - and that would render this discussion moot, but I wanted to get ahead of this. Sorry I didn't do it sooner.
