Ticket says
Hold up! Possibly 3 strait games in Bklyn & Man. in 3 nites in black out zone A. An air view of Nets' home is so close to the water near Borough Hall the train tunnels to get there won't be drained 'til next week. No power from 34th street south means no Heat in MSG Fri., I predict.

We can kibbitz about the DNP solution until Monday when the season begins. I say you lose a guy you must insert a player at that position who has yet to play that match. Only if none are available (or you neglect to insert replacement before said guy plays first game in match period) should you be left with score of worst performer on your roster who plays the same position as your DNP.

If we start prematurely like the tenuous birth of E-Team's son:

Noah-5
Milsap-4
Jo. Smith-3
Curry-2
Paul-1
Scola-6

The 2012-2013 Hawthorne Wingos, ill-prepared to start their sophomore season, announce their Opening Night lineup:

Deron Williams PG
Klay Thompson SG
Ersan Ilyasova SF
Al Horford PF
DeMarcus Cousins C
George Hill Util

Good luck to all!

E Team says:

Boy, that didn't take long. Tom, why would you announce, out of the blue, that the season starts on Monday? The season starts on Friday. That's tomorrow. Way to make things clear for everyone.

Yes, the Knicks and Nets thing is a bit confusing. But let's (obviously) do this: Play your Knicks/Nets guys if you must in Match One, you'll get their stats from whenever the fuck it is that they actually play their first game. But we're not going to junk a match period with 28 other team going just for the sake of Deron Williams and Carmelo Anthony. They'll probably play in the match period anyway. (Nassau Coliseum anyone?)

We're ready to roll. Screw New York and its silly little storm. Match One begins at 7 PM Friday, Nov. 2 (tomorrow). Lineups in, people.

E Team goes:

DHow, Monta, Rondo, Pierce, Duncan and Deng.

Atlanta Hawks
Atlanta Hawks: Smith on verge of statitistical milestone

8:07 am November 1, 2012, by Chris Vivlamore

Vivlamore reporting.

* The Hawks are off today prior to opening the regular season Friday against the Rockets. Here is my story on Josh Smith that will appear in Friday’s print edition of the AJC. A special note of thanks to the Hawks’ crack PR staff for providing the names below of all 23 players in NBA history to have amassed 10,000 points, 5,000 rebounds, 2,000 assists and 1,000 blocks. The check is in the mail.

Josh Smith admits the chip is still squarely on his shoulder – even as he piles up statistics few in NBA history have amassed.

If he remains healthy for his ninth season Smith will become the 24th player in league history to reach 10,000 points, 5,000 rebounds, 2,000 assists and 1,000 blocks. There are only eight players to do it with one team

Josh Smith? A classic example of our fantasy focused generation of sports fans (me included). Never won anything, never will. He's just a poor man's Human Highlight Film, but more selfish. He and Hotlanta deserve each other.
Mr. Belvedere:
1-T.Evans
2-D.Wade
3-R.Gay
4-B.Griff
5-D.Lee
6-J.Lin

Unknown said...

Mr. Belvedere rings the bell on this one. Going to the College of Musical Knowledge (thanks J. Geils) to widen the opportunities for metaphor, Lynyrd Skynyrd ain't the Allman Brothers...

Unknown said...

The impetuous yet equivocating Hawthorne Wingos revise their Match 1 Roster, replacing George Hill with Danilo Gallinari (who has been cleared to play tonight) at the 6-Spot.

Hoop Social said...

I don't understand Belvedere classification of Josh Smith as selfish-he doesn't score nearly as mush as he couls cleans the glass and plays lock down d swatting numerous shot-what's not to like here?the fact he hasn't won is the fault of poor upstairs decisions (combined with some tough teams to beat in the eastern playoffs) not surrounding him with a great supporting cast-he's been on the current team the longest for a reason and those career numbers Chris presents are very impressive-all the others who've done this as the list shows are great players

Hoop Social said...

To widen the metaphor-Atlanta ownership since Time/Warner sold out has also listened to J.Geils but the song is "First I Look at the Purse"!!(did Peter Wolf write those lyrics when he was hitting on Faye Dunaway?)here of course I mean they were tight fisted w/money not gigolos-and the depleted ranks of both Lynyrd Skinard and the Allman brothers don't compare well here-I'd say if Kobe's the beatles and Lebron is the stones then Josh might rank higher than those 2 southern bands

Invaders were the one who made the last 2 comments

For Swat Team
M. Gasol
Igoudala
T. Parker
A. Jefferson
LeBron
T. Lawson

J. Smith is a black hole.
He's killed more clock time than Dean Smith's Four Corners "offense".

Hoop Social said...

Dave-I completely dis-agree w/your characterization of Smith-I watch a lot of games I see a great player who fills that stat sheet-he doesn't have the greatest offensive skill set but most modern NBA players don't either-he's been forced into a larger offensive role on most of his Hawk teams-Joe Johnson is the best player he ever played with and now he's gone-Smith is w/out question the best all around player the Hawks have had since Dominique-I don't see this black hole clock killing guy I see a guy w/a bunch of lesser talented players to support -Horford could board/Johnson score/Teague run/and Marvin did little-hell ZaZa did more than he did-the Hawks were overachievers the last few years and Josh was the reason why

E Team says:

Hey, you guys should identify yourselves so we know who we're responding to.
I concur with the B on Josh Smith. Lock down defense? Because he comes from the weak side and blocks shots? Ticket and I watched LaMarcus Aldridge just destroy the guy in a game last season. Inside and out. Just killed him.
He does fill up the stat sheet though.

2 - Harden
3 - Durant
4- Bosh
5 - Ibaka
6 - George

At rest, people.
