Just mailed out the Match 4 standings.

Jeez, people are gettin' kinda muscular around here. Swat takes hold of his unit and breaks on through with a 190, but can't spoil Ticket's coming out party, which vaults the previously winless defending champion to the top of the second division.

The X-Man takes out one undefeated frontrunner and now looks to do it again.

And what's up with the Invaders? Making noise and cash just like that.

It's a little early to be watching the scoreboard, people, but I say... start watching the scoreboard.

Happy weekend to all.

Tom during last night's Warrior Utah game I heard that Kanter never played basketball until he was 15 because he's father forbid it.The father was a professor at a Turkish university and demanded a rigorous academic life(assuming not Talmudic studies how many Yeshivas are in Turkey?).The father's thinking was sports were trivial. But when he found out how much money he could make playing in the NBA he gave his blessings.Must be tough being a Turkish Jew but being 6-11 260 helps.Being Jewish in Utah is very good since the Mormons believe they are one of the lost tribes of Israel and call every non-Mormon "gentiles".They love Jews. This is how I got into the Mormon basketball league here in Oakland playing on the best hardwood court in the bay area at the huge LDS temple here many years ago.

Mark, what about Constantinople and crossroads of the world and all that stuff? There are probably a lot of Jews in Turkey. No?

Eric there were 200-300 thousand Jews in Turkey prior to WWI but 80-90% left either in the period of the 2 wars or immediately after when the new state of Israel came into being.Constantinople was indeed the crossroads of the world and thousands of sephardic(literal translation is "Spanish")Jews prospered as merchants/traders representing the wealthy interests of the Muslim and Christian worlds as these 2 spheres shunned contact and used Jews as middleman.Ataturk'S takeover of the country in the 1920's hastened the exodus of many Jews. There are perhaps 20-30 thousand Jews still in Turkey but a significant percentage are immigrants from Syria and the Arab world rather than the long time Sephardic families that lived there for centuries. It would be interesting to see a detailed family history for Kanter

E Team says:

Mark, you amaze as always. Did I tell you my great grandfather, who emigrated to San Francisco from Poland in the late 19th Century, was a cantor?

And that his surname was originally Jenakowski, which makes it possible if not likely that - the slight variation in spelling notwithstanding - I'm related to the leading scorer in Invader/Raider history?

Just kickin' that around. (See what I did there?)
