Hey Knish/Commish-I haven't had a good Knish since I left New York.There used to be an old guy w/a cart full of various noshes set-up in front of Sproul Plaza-famous counter-culture gathering place on Cal Berkeley campus (it was tear gassed by Gov.Regan in '68)who used to yell out every day"hot knishes the salvation of us all"I'm more into chicken soup w/kreplach or pumpernickle bagle w/ a smear and some smoked sturgeon(from Carnegie deli or Zabars or Barney Greengrass on the Upper West side).I miss good Jewish cuisine here.I also loved Ben's down in the garment district near Macy's- took Ma there all the time.On holidays it was loaded w/orhodox-upper west side had all the big conservative and reformed congregations.east side too.

I was forced into the east side "reform" school.
When I learned as an early adolescent Bob Cousy and later Nets'/S. Carolina's John Roche were the only upper east siders in the NBA kids could emulate, I set my sight on a sport for exceptional midgets: baseball.
I wound up an unemployed fantasy basketball commissioner wishing he was a '58 Yankee, '68 Tiger, or a '79 Pirate who overcame a 3-1 Series deficit and won the last two games of a seven game series in a hostile ball park. Now I wish I was Cliff Lee with work to do Thur. in the Bronx Zoo.

At age 8 my cousin Skipper played an old curmudgeon in the YMHA production of Our Town by Thornton Wilder, who Dorothy Parker of the Algonquin Round Table of literary NYC masters described as "Little Thornton." Apparently Wilder was as queer as they come and treated as a first rate brat.
What's the point? The Invaders role in the film "Danger in Paradise" and his brush with California celebrities- these are the stories Hoop Social readers clamor for.

Speaking of Thornton Wilder, I cut Gay on the second of back to backs and he/she goes from sub 30 to 40 at Sacramental.
Danger in Paradise was the pilot for an ill fated NBC show that lasted only 9 weeks before being cancelesd in the fall of '77-we used a lot of Hawaii 5-0 equipment-it was essentially Bonanza in Hawaii-filmed on the Parker ranch-the second biggest cattle ranch at that time in U.S.-I was a "paniolo" cowboy-(I didn't look "howlie",I could turn brown instead of red and I had hair half-way down my back)not be confused w/"pakalolo" which is so "ono"-I quit college to be a movie star but due to my broad frame was fated to character parts at 22.Eric being part Hawaiian would relate to this story..
strange segue-how we made the leap from Wilder to Gay?-'cause Dorthy Parker said he was-(you ever see Jennifer Jason Leigh's attempt to play her?)more to the point- my preliminary math indicates that the Invaders have beaten Eric's team by the score of 221-175

Confirming Invaders' 221-175 win over the E Team, which was clearly in trouble even without the 11 from Garnett. I sure am glad I took him.
Enjoying the chat about kreplach and road dogs and failed TV pilots, but I do wish guys would identify themselves with each post, otherwise we can't tell who's talking.
And Tom, the word for non-Hawaiians is haoli. Don't anger the ancients with misspellings.
Invaders says-it was me Eric-I thought it was actually "haole"I was spelling it phonetically-I'm good w/the ancients-I swam at the "queen's bath" and went to all-Hawaiian sites around Kohala on the big island.My best friend there was the son of Charlie Bent the "Don Ho" of the big island- played the big hotels on Banyan drive in Hilo as well as Honolulu-radio show weekdays 10-2 on KPUA radio in "pidgin"- 2 time guest nemesis of Jack Lord on 5-0-his son was Charles K. Bent-the K stands for Kahaialohaoonalokalani-which supposedly means flag of love of life!Doubt I spelled that one right either.

In case you didn't know, your Terry did not count in our match because your first six picks on draft night were deemed your lineup as of deadline for match 1. Therefore you beat me. Your match 2 lineup counts for match 3 but you did not post your score against McCarthyism. He was no help either. See match 3 scores for yours and his lineups I copied and pasted there. This league's low budget so tallies by commish shan't be expected.
