Thanks for your hard work Mark. It was selfish of me to jump on the jazz band wagon driven by the commish after he proposed a play in. The rival I had from Frisco in my early days as a scalper-Douglas DeMayne, aka Jackson, was from the Bay area. He used to say he only buys tickets for his friends for events that appeal to Dead Heads. The idea that this is about basketball eludes me. This is about gambling and competition to me. Jackson used to say karma will catch up with me. Here is how it did:

My Mylan stock jumps in value from 2K to 12K in roughly 20 years. Mylan moves off shore to save on income taxes. I must "sell" now and realize a ten grand gain. I only find out when my 1099 form is received in February, so I can't dump loser tech stocks to off set the gain last year.
Eric used to speak of paying taxes on mutual funds he did not cash out when ahead, but was stuck with a loss he could only use later for a deduction. I would tell him you do not have that problem owning stocks.
So much for lasseiz fare capitalism I believe in.

This makes as much sense as the Gary Cuozzo (once a back up to Johnny Unitas) leading a Viking team half a season to Super Bowl IV and Mark saying beating a Cuozzo/Kapp club was just as historical as Jets beating a Unitas team with Bubba Smith. Cuozzo is infamous for being the guy the Saints traded for in exchange for the draft rights to Bubba.

I neglected to mention I "bought" Mylan back at top price unbeknownst to me. It has sunk significantly, but nothing to be alarmed about.

Tom you're missing the point as seen as the time it's as important historically because it proved the Jets weren't a fluke and the AFL was equal. In popular culture and in NY infused media it seems like to the two events aren't of the same caliber but in terms of making an unequivocal statement that the AFL was equal to and even superior to the arrogant, pompous NFL it was a vindication of the superiority of the wide open offense played by Stram's Chiefs who you don't seem to appreciate as seminal in offensive strategy. The 3 mini backs mixed reverses and shifts to utterly confuse the vaunted Viking defense.Minnesota's offense was very conservative under Bud Grant who's the answer to a trivia question who's the only guy in sports to win a Grey Cup and an NBA championship?Grant played for the Minneapolis Lakers

I'm completely against mutual funds partially because of the lack of control for tax purposes

Oh how I love this LONG standing FBB league, Mark I have bailed on this league for a season based on the short sided nature of the memories of the participants in this league with regards to the loosely based Constitution of the PDX B-Ball league.

I will do some research and see if we can find precedence in regards to this issue.

I believe that points "rule the day" Mark, but will work to confirm.

I agree with Tom, 35 games suck, its like the season is over at thw All-Star Break, now that we are taking on free agents through Supplimental Drafts throughout the majority of season, no reason 40 games can't work when strength of team not solely predicated on draft results.

Long live Swat Team!

Jeez, you guys are so freaking sensitive. Maybe you should arm yourselves and take over a birdwatching preserve or something. I'm sure others will rally to your cause.

Tom, I don't drive a bandwagon and I don't get on them. You want to make decisions and then change your mind and then apologize for it, go ahead. But don't blame me for your waffling. It's why nobody in their right mind would have you running stuff.

I was merely seeking clarification on a procedural matter. Sometimes shit happens that hasn't come up before and we have to take it upon ourselves to make sure we're doing the right thing. This league isn't off the shelf and never has been. We had to create it ourselves out of whole cloth. That takes some hard work and clear thinking - and the occasional difference of opinion - but it's resulted in a pretty cool little toy that's been damn resilient. (Why do I feel like I'm always having to make this case?)

Sean, I feel your sense of the season ending too soon after 19 years of 40 matches, but we made a decision as a group to go 35 this season. If we decide go back to 40 we go back. And nice of you to weigh in on the 4/5 question about a month after I first mentioned it. You don't have to do any research for Mark. Dave indicated in favor of using the tiebreaker and he's the only one that could be affected at this point, so fine, we go with it. We resolved it. I just thought it was worth looking at.

And Sean, you bailed a few years back because you failed to notice that one of your guys was an early call in a crucial playoff match. There had been some ambiguity on that stuff previously, but we had clarified the ruling prior to that time. You were upset, but the ruling was not wrong. Look, you and I both lost titles on DNPs that might've been avoided with the Second Chance Rule, but there wasn't one at the time. Now we have it. Sometimes solutions don't happen until there's a problem. I don't have a freaking crystal ball.

You guys act like the league is being run by the Illuminati or something. I'm just one guy with one vote who has an occasional question about this or that. Nobody is out to get anybody, Lavoy Finnicum. But keep me posted on how the revolution is going.

Oscar night, people!

Trivia: How many Oscars have been won by Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Leo DiCaprio?

Answer: None. Imagine that. The biggest stars of their generation. We'll see if that ends tonight.

Let's see if my Mexican, Inarritu, wins his second straight Best Director, which hasn't happened in, like, our lifetime.

And consider this: If Stallone wins Best (Athletic) Supporter , it means Academy members would have checked a box saying he did something in front of a camera better than Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hardy, and Christian Bale. Really? And then prepare for an acceptance speech that proves beyond a doubt what a dull idiot Stallone is, in case you were wondering.

X, sorry, this is the best I can do with ADave sidelined by the gruesome toe injury.

Now I feel bad for baggin' on Stallone. He didn't even win. Poor old bastard.

Mutual funds are typically poor for tax planning in taxable accounts. Embedded gains when you're down 10% is not fun.
Though the bulk of m funds are held in retirement accounts where their tax inefficiencies are moot. That's why you don't see these investment companies issuing 'tax efficient' mutual funds. Not enough assets to make it worthwhile for them; though this is changing.

ETF's can provide like diversification with better tax control.

I generally put clients taxable dollars in fee-based, tax managed mutual fund / ETF portfolios where you can offset gains and losses.
