I had the pleasure of schooling a young black couple on NBA history last night.It was karaoke night at a nearby pub.They were late 20's early 30's and believed they knew their NBA history better than some old white guy.I proceeded to explain that Russell's multiple rings were much easier to accomplish than Jordan's' simply because there were 8 teams in the league in the 50's and early 60's and 9 in the mid 60's with the Bulls expansion team compared with 28 and 30 teams in the 80's and early 90's.I then told tales of the greatest athlete I ever saw Wilt Chamberlain.They didn't realize that the record 70 win Bull season broke the record of Wilt's '72 Lakers who broke the record of Wilt's '68 Sixers.I needed to explain that the signature fouls line air Jordan dunk was originated not by Michael but by Dr.J in the ABA in the early 70's but I saw Wilt do it at 7'1 290 in the early 60's!!!I also explained that I think Curry is the closest in game to Jerry West I've seen in 50 years....

Does anyone have Isaiah Thomas. No one had a more effective offensive weapon than Jabbar's sky hook or left more spectators so in awe of his finger roll arch off the top of the glass than the ice man George Gervin. His one handed scoop shots however have been imitated less than the underhanded free throws by Rick Barry.

Bill Bridges? busted up the second greatest dynasty to Jordan and Pippen's. Jordan's time off may be the reason for Hakeem's titles. Why is he not the greatest center is beyond me.

Jordan did not invent but rather established Jordan rules. The Euro step could not have evolved as legal had Jordan not legitimized traveling by incorporating the up and down violation Mendy Rudolph would probably had called on him. Jordan's leap from outside the key to follow a missed free throw and never stepping inside the lane for a lane violation has to be my favorite of all Jordan's Rules. I disagree with Mark's comment that hints that more teams makes it harder to win titles. Three titlists per decade has been the norm in all but the 70's when there was eight! Perhaps a change of guard in the next five years will democratize the NBA.
Ticket retracts last opinion. The St, Louis Hawks and 76ers were one timers who disrupted the "Celtics beat the Lakers" decade. I thought Magic vs Bird and Jordan vs the dummies (why only Portland?) was bad in terms of NBA history if you take National BA literally.
68-13 Sixer champions had Wilt/Luke Jackson at 4/Walker at 3/Wally Jones 1 and Hal Greer 2 Cunningham was the super 6th man like Havlichek was for Celtics. Wilt's Sixers were the first all black starting 5 to win an NBA title.The Celtics had been using 4 black guys since Cousy and Sharman retired in the early 60's and were replaced by Sam and KC Jones.Satch Sanders the starting 3 played less than Havlichek.The bench was almost all white for both teams and both had a white star Havlichek and Cunningham playing as much as the starters.Tom you are actually agreeing with me on the ring issue 3 or 4 champions per decade is more competitive than one.The Celtics won every year Russell played (1957-70)except 2 1958 to the St. Louis Hawks and to Wilt's Sixers.Wilt also lost a 7 game final with my Warriors to the Celtics in '64 he had a pretty good rookie 4 next to him named Nate Thurmond.
Tommy Heinsohn also retired in the early 60's so by 1964-1965 you had 4 black starters on the Celtics before this from 56-57 to 1962-63 Russell was the onky black starter..

Last two matches A Dave gives us 30 and 20. The non-counting games he did not provide were a 54 and 58. This is a microcosm of the season up to this point, although not to quite to that extreme.
