I don't know if we start the Platoon Regimen now or wait until Match 8, as Mark seems to favor. I think he and I agree that waiting somehow levels the benefits for all with one round robin complete, but I'm not wedded to it. I'll vote to wait but will go with the will of the people.

Westbrook 1 (Shroder)
Drummond 5 (Nurkic)
Aldridge 4 (Melo)
Beal 2 (McGruder)
Lowry 6 (Kuzma)
AGordon 3 (Ingram)

I forgot all about the backups I would rather wait but we'll try this and see how many remember to post lineups every match....(Embiid/Kanter)/(Griff/Sabonis)/(Derozan/Parker) (Harden/Russell)/(Wall/Williams) and (Galinari/Wiggins) (5/4/3/2/1/ and 6)

Further Revised and Supplemented Lineup for the Hawthorne Wingos:
1-Kemba (backup Bledsoe)
2-Butler (backup Bledsoe)
3-Tobias (backup Hardaway)
4-Giannis (backup Allen)
5-DeAndre (backup Millsap)
U-De'Aaron (backup Monk)
Wingos have included backups, but are happy to wait, whatever the people decide.

As of this moment, we've got six lineups, three of them with platoon backups. Do we consider those votes for and against activating the PBR or do we actually make a decision on going now vs. waiting two more matches?

I would personally prefer that we all be in agreement, and launching in Match 8 means we're on the same page whether people are ready or not. Otherwise, we fuck around waiting for people to weigh in, which is often a fool's errand around here, and still risk ending up deadlocked.

I say we hold for two more matches.

I say wait for match 8 but the non-postings will still occur I predict if 5 or more teams post backups is that a majority vote for going with it now? That is confusing since I posted backups but want to wait

As noted above, Wingos listing of backups was not a vote for starting now, it was just cover. Let's wait.

As to Wingos and other lineups with backups who can play 2 positions I'm under the impression that you can't use the same player twice like Bledsoe for Hawthorne as a backup at 2 positions. If we could do that we wouldn't have needed to draft the extra 3 to start. I think that shouldn't be allowed if you can't use the same guy at 2 positions as a starter why can you as a backup??

E Team:

Mark is correct on the Wingo platoon. No double duty. Every starter must be backed up by a player who's designated at the same position, except the 6, who can be whatever. Why do I suspect Wingo already knew that? Is he courting legal action so he can take his case to the High Court?

So it looks official. We begin the Platoon Backup Regimen (PBR) in Match 8. Not listing your starters in the lineup post is a pain in the ass for others, but it still allows you to carry them over, as always. But not listing your backups means you get the 2nd Chance Rule (2CR) and nothing more.

With the PBR, you must first exhaust the 2CR, then you get the number your backup puts up in the first game of the match period, whenever it happens. We need to clarify a couple things. We could give the backups the 2CR, but I've heard some sentiment against it, thinking it's too generous and/or too much work. I'm kinda neutral at this point. We should vote on it.

And is there any aspect of early calls for backups that we need to consider? I haven't had time to think it through, I just want to make sure there isn't some pitfall we're not anticipating. Input welcomed.

Thanks Dr. E (aka Commissioner when he wants to be)!
Wingos so not agree with the no duplicate backup position. On a baseball team the bench does not include one player for each position, rather just a few who can cover the few instances when needed. The reality is that Wingos would actually do a baseball "double-switch" if needed -- which is exactly what NBA teams do. They field the best team possible by moving people around, and Wingos think we should be able to do that as well.

And one more question for the Decider -- I read your E-dict to mean that we can simply not list a backup for each position (and in fact Wingos are unable to do so without disadvantaging their team)and in that case the 2CR would apply. Please confirm.

Week 8 is fine.

My understanding was that we would have a separate backup at each position. It doesn't feel to me like Wingo's double duty idea has been part of any discussion we've had. But hey, you guys can propose anything you want.

What I said about people not needing to submit backups was just, hey, you don't want backups at every position? Fine. Don't back up your guys on the lineup post. Roll the dice on the 2CR. Right? Or hell, we could go commando and eliminate the 2CR altogether and rely entirely on the backups. The thing is whatever we want it to be. But it all needs to be decided by Monday afternoon.

Why wouldn't we be able to use the same guy to back up multiple positions? What's the downside?

Unknown said...

If so, I'm out on the pre-designation of backups.
