E Team:

I love this. Out of nowhere, XMan and his wingman Wingo propose a DNP mitigation wrinkle that nobody has even considered, that has never been on the table despite months of discussion, or at least opportunity to discuss.

And when it encounters some resistance, Nitecaps throws his wrench, says he's taking his ball and going home, and forces the rest of the league to scramble at the last minute to reach some kind of accommodation, a couple days before the scheduled launch of what all of us hoped would be a more effective solution. And all of this, mind you, as a result of a lot of highly vocal unhappiness with the existing protocol, a 2nd Chance Rule that we wrangled long and hard to implement.

Okay, I guess we'll try to work it out.

But here's the best part. Amidst all that, Dave's Mirotic DNPs in Match 7, against the best team in the league. The guy's got one game in the match period, so not only is the existing 2CR of no help, the solution XMan hastily proposed last season - the in-match substitution - would also have been worthless.

But let's suppose, under the proposed platoon regimen, Dave had backed up Mirotic with Julius Randle, a sensible call. The guy puts up a 42 tonight and the Nitecaps would be a formality away from handing the Invaders their first loss of the season. And even if Dave had gone with his Harry Barnes and his shitty 11, or whatever it was, he'd still at least have a shot at the win. Exactly what the system is designed to do.

But no. None of that. No good. Bad plan. Why? Because somebody else proposed it?

Whatever.

We've got until 4 PM Monday to vote in the PBR, and we can do it as a seven-match trial if we choose. I think it was clear to most of us that the proposal involved backing up each starter with a DIFFERENT bench player with the appropriate position designation, leaving out the 6th man, who can be whoever you want. No double duty.

If you are in favor of that, vote "Yes." If it doesn't get five votes, we stay with the existing system, the 2CR.

Pretty simple, really. I vote to give it a shot. I think it makes sense. But hey, you guys do whatever you want to do.

Wingos actually 223.

Tell me which guys were different from the above Hawthorne? I will check...I'll vote yes as long as it's 6 separate backups at one position each

Final Invaders are 7-0 beating shorthanded Nitecaps 232-206 I(Embiid-68...Griff-26...Derozan-27...Harden-38...Wall-41...Kanter-32) Caps(Simmons-48...McCullum-18...Doncic-37...Mirotic-DBP...Jokic-64...Jrue-39) Final Swat demolishes P4 239-169 SW(Lillard-36...Mitchell-30...Tatum-33...KAT-60...Lavine 39...Vucevic-41) P4(Curry-DNP...Kyrie-34...Middleton-23...KD-48...MGas-38...Richardson-26) Swat's 239 takes MHS

Mirotic dnp above was almost impossible to be aware of he turned an ankle in practice but Curry injury Thursday was widely publicized Irving got his 2nd chance tonight yes if you backup 6 guys with 6 different guys you will usually avoid this problem the new proposal will work if everyone posts their 6x2 position lineups each match

mrkmosier@gmail.com said...

I like the 7 match trial idea but again I'm convinced it will work as long as every team posts a double lineup with 12 different players every match

Again, Wingos can't post a double lineup with all different players and do not understand why they should. Li'l Hawthorne feels like Mark and Eric do not understand what Dave and he are saying, and the miscommunication through blog is quite frustrating.

At no time am I suggesting that a player actually be counted in more than one category. As in reality, in all sports, when someone is injured or unavailable the lineup is adjusted beyond a straight substitution. AArrgh! In order to post what you want, Wingos have to make decisions based on second team availability that affect quality of starting lineup, or risk not having a sub. This is not how sports works! And exchanging texts and blogbytes is not how to have an actual discussion.

I confirm with Mark for Swat/P4 match

Hawthorne I've always understood what you were talking about. There is no reason you can't post a double lineup. Yes you have to make choices that's the point. This isn't real basketball it's a fantasy game where your starters are limited to one posted position before each game except for the 6th guy who's a wild card.I don't understand why you're insisting the backups would be allowed flexibility the starters are not.If Freak's numbers fit better at 3 but you posted him at 4 that's just too bad under the rules you can't slide him over like real basketball can you? Then why on earth would you think your backups would be allowed to do something the starters are not? So you backup kemba with Fox Butler with Bledsoe etc. etc. what's wrong with that? Yes you have to strategically decide who to put where on your first and second unit that's the challenge just like with first 6. Why can't you see it for what it is a test of our abilities to pick the right players for the right positions just like we did before with 6 guys? You can't subvert the purpose of the rules by adding flexibility to the backups the starters don't have. This is how this version of fantasy has always worked otherwise everyone would be the 6th man!

and on the last point about everyone a 6th man that's my frustration and hyperbole. Of course i understand you and Dave saying the flexibility of the backups is limited to the positions Yahoo acknowledges for them. That doesn't change my opposition on this point of the discussion. No player on your second unit can be allowed to do something guys on the first unit can't do. It completely changes the game's rules rather than do what it's supposed to do which is limited to making injuries less likely to add up to zeros in your team scoring.
