As I've stated before, I side with Sean and Chris on using the same player to back up multiple positions. I'lll go back and read Mark's response, but I'm not even sure why this is a question.

Yeah, I just read over Marks reply and I still don't think we are talking about the same thing. I don't understand the part about the backups not having the same rules as the starters?

I do understand what Eric is saying and as usual I couldn't disagree more.

Ticket 197+Paul

E Team:

I believe what Mark is saying - and I agree - is that we are specific about what our starters do. This guy's my center, this guy's my six, etc., regardless of how many positions they may be eligible to play. You designate one player to one spot.

Having a backup do double duty - or more - does not meet that standard. Now you're putting one player out there who could fill in for two or even three different guys, depending on which one doesn't show up. It feels random because it requires less managerial rigor, if you will, than what we've generally demanded of ourselves. And I thought you guys were all about that.

And Dave, I've expressed a number of thoughts on this matter. Perhaps you could be a bit more specific about what it is you disagree with, assuming the goal is to resolve the issue and not just "side" with people.

Ticket 197+Paul is correct Currently no other game has so many players in the books so I'll wait on partials for now. Eric is essentially accurate in explaining my position above.I obviously thought I was making my point on the backup 12 man vs. multi-position issue but apparently I didn't specify examples so here's what the problem is. Example Wingos start Butler at 3 Freak at 4 but Butler is DNP which really happened due the trade tonight. The backups for 3 and 4 score teens and twenties but Freak scores 50 the higher backup in the twenties is only a player eligible at 4 so if the rules applied equally to the starters as the backups Wingo could slide Freak to 3 and take the 20 score at 4 instead of Butler's vacant 3 or the backup's teen score gaining several extra points. Now you say at first glance that's a ridiculous example we can't do that right? Well is it ridiculous? If Chris' backup 4 can slide to 3 why can't Freak? Isn't the starter supposed to be more important and valuable than any backup? But in this example he isn't the backup has arguably more value because he can be used at any position he's eligible for on Yahoo but Freak can't. That completely subverts the rules. It isn't acceptable to give a team with a dnp a chance to possibly greatly improve his score because the backups can be utilized in more creative ways than the starters. The purpose of getting rid of dnp isn't to give a team that has one enhanced options and increased ability to score because of it. The purpose is limited to not getting a zero by forcing the designation of all 12 players to a single position. You need to plan and utilize the entire roster to benefit from a dnp not just lazily plug in the same guy to 2 positions.

Chris your point about the lack of a backup 3 above is exactly my point. You have 4 options that play 3 Butler/Freak/Hardaway and Tobias all are multi-positional and you chose to start all 4. So that is reflecting your drafting and your strategy to win. If you know the system affords insurance and Butler is likely to be out because of the trade, which you should of factored in then someone else should've played 2 or 4 or 6 and Butler or someone else should've backed up 3. Knowing the impending system and your favored roster options going forward it's clear in retrospect you should've taken a player who is a 3 among the 3 latest players drafted and I would bet you will be getting a 3 in the next supplemental.
From my own perspective the 4 multi-position players who you could've used as your 3 are legitimate as 2 slot players but Milsap isn't. Yahoo allowing Milsap to be a 5 is ridiculous he's not the listed 6-8 or 6-9(really barely 6-7 which is one reason why he had to go to La Tech instead of a top program and wasn't a top pro prospect) He missed most of last season and Jokic plays 40 minutes a game.He isn't like Draymond another undersized overachieving 4 who really does play some 5 for my Warriors. Yahoo's absurd positioning makes me even more unwilling to allow any multi-position backups

Wingo: Re. your query on the Match 8 Lineup post.

Five teams, yourself included, submitted lineups with reserves at each position for the current match.

Sean submitted backups but had one player designated at two positions, which does not conform to the platoon regimen as originally proposed.

Dave submitted a lineup with no reserves.

P4 did not submit a lineup at all.

To me that looks like about a 5-2-1 breakdown in support of the PBR as originally conceived and discussed. If Tom and Sam had been in favor of the multi-duty backups, I would think their lineups would've reflected that.

But your thinking is that Mark and I, despite being on the right side of the vote, should not have any say in efforts to address issues affecting the league? That we should "concede?"

Really?

I can't for the life of me find any way that Mark and Eric's argument makes any sort of sense what so ever. Just can't, no matter how I spin it.
Just when I think this league can't get any more disorganized and ridiculous...

Dave why would any sub be able to be plugged in at multiple positions if you need to post a starting 6 without similar manipulative abilities? logically you must post a backup 6 if a starter can't be manipulated to cover the positions he's eligible for otherwise you've created a new two tier system for player usage. Why did we wait to implement this until the last 3 guys were drafted unless the problem was not having 12 healthy players? We could of used the system you favor from match 1 why didn't you Sean or Chris point that out at the time? We are not attempting to replicate 9 man rotations we are just giving people who wanted it some insurance against dnps. We don't change the rules for those sub players regardless of the fact we still use second chance..It we had multiple utility slots and just g and f slots then it could be played that way but this format has never been run that way. DNP insurance isn't a license to modify the use of multi-position players so that you never need to worry about your roster. I've never been for getting rid of dnps completely anyway the owner has a personal responsibility to know if their players are healthy or not. Some dnps like Mirotic for you recently are inevitable but I see you played him again and got another dnp why?? If you have the ability to just use 9 guys to cover 12 spots then will anyone ever check player availability or bother to post a lineup? the whole league will be on autopilot I don't want that.

My only point was if I use the same guy to back up 2 positions and both of the positions need a sub you would only get to only use him for one position. Not sure if that clears up anything, but quite honestly I don't care one way or another. I don't care if we use subs at all.
My checks in the mail and for the record, I'm current. I hope everyone else is as well. I'm out after this season. It's been a fun 20+ years...for the most part.

Wow. Dramatic.

Dave I always understood what you said above about same guy backing up 2 positions but counted for only one from the beginning when you and Wingo brought it up.I still say we always proceeded with this under the assumption 12 players would be posted. That was always my understanding. On the subject of scoring this match I apologize for not catching this Sunday/Monday but the Pacers don't play this match period they play Friday so Sunday's Pacer game must be an early call for stats this match. Oladipo is the only Pacer being used by Sam against Dave we await he Laker-Blazer contest that most of you are likely watching for results of 3 matches. There is one final which I perdict will be highly unpopular with everyone except me .

Finding ever more imaginative ways to be shitty, the E Team benches the supposedly injured Aaron Gordon (35) in favor of Kylie Kuzma (13), and loses to the five-man P4 by 169-167. Quite possibly the most anemic match in fantasy history.

Hey Dave, I quit, too.
