Wait. Ryno has Melo and Tyreke on his bench? With both of them healthy? I didn't know that. That's kinda funky.

Tom-Invaders use ESPN box scores-they have KG w/16 pts/5 boards/1 assist/2 steals and 1 block for 25 but I had a 26 written on my score book so you're correct it's a 4 point lead

so I gave your Ticketeers the extra point from somewhere....you're right make it 138-134

Ticket's mention of the Cooler movie brings to mind that the film used the former Sahara/ Flamingo Hilton in Reno as the casino-a place frequented many times in Invaders earlier incarnation as bookie apprentice and bag man-it was 2 casinos connected by a covered walkway-the front was the old Primadonna club on Virginia which had 3 giant plaster showgirls across the top of the facade-one of which still exists today attached atop an x-rated shop farther down Virginia street-I attended a Super Bowl party in the Penthouse suite if the then Sahara in '81 w/gambling notables including Amarillo Slim and another young bookmaking employee who later became an NBA executive...

Standings have been mailed out along with some news and comment.

Perhaps I owe Ryno an apology. I see that both Cousins and Wall were 30-plus last match, and JRB did post a 220. Yes, he could've gotten good numbers from Anthony (40) and Tyreke (36), but I left a 49, 44 and 39 on the pine myself.

Here's hoping Ryno does some damage down the stretch. Especially now that I just finished playing him.

Invaders win with a 182? Bah, humbug.

E Team says:

I wanted to throw this out there for consideration.

We have $900 in the FBBL pot, six paying entrants at $150 per. Mark's fee was waived when he agreed to rescue us by handling the scorekeeping. (It is true that in recent years the commissioner has agreed to accept a less than full discount, and Mark could still offer to do so if he's feeling generous, but he is under no such obligation.)

As it stands, I propose the following breakdown of payouts. It reflects both tradition (the champion will receive somewhat more than one-third of the total money) and new realities (I suggest we suspend the NIT this season; there aren't even enough teams to hold it).

Champion $375.00
MHS $200.00
Regular season winner $125.00
Scoring champion $125.00
Playoff runnerup $50.00
Third place, playoffs $25.00

Pretty straightforward. One may note that the second-place finisher in the regular season gets no money, which I consider unfortunate. If the pot were bigger, we could address that, but for this season, getting the double jeopardy advantage will have to suffice as a reward.

Some have suggested that the champion's money should be bigger, but the above total does represent more than one-third of the total purse, which has been the standard. And, as always, it's likely that whoever wins the championship will have earned other cash prizes as well.

I'm open to suggestions on improving the money distribution, otherwise we can sign off and move on.

Happy Super Sunday, people.

Since Invaders are odds on favorites to finish 2nd at this point it is distressing that there is no provision for 2nd place money..since Eric is the likely regular season winner and scoring champion it seems that any change would have be shaved out of his likely 250 winnings-I think there should be 50 bucks for and place and no money for 3rd in playoffs-I also believe a further 25 should be shaved from regular season winner and scoring champion making each 100-particularly w/scoring champion somewhat redundant payoff considering mhs money is reflective of probable scoring champion

Hoop Social said...

So Invaders propose the following-bump champion to 400...keep MHs 200...divide remaining 300 as follows 100 for regular season champion..100 for scoring champion...50 for second place regular season winner...50 for playoff second place...nothing for 3rd place playoff winner...this has a benefit of getting rid of all these 25's and 75's-why not make every prize even numbers?..much less complicated-if you go along w/this I could kick in 25-50 but I want it to go either to the Champions purse to raising it 425 or 450-I believe more money should go to the winner of the playoffs only....or perhaps 25 for a 3rd place plyoff winner..If we stay w/Eric's proposal then I'd want to keep my 150 since I'd could get it back if I won 2nd place money...

Swat sez;

Nice, Millsap drops a 20 for me in Match 30 w/P4, yet goes 37 game before and 50 game after, sweet. And he was sub'ed for the Bargnani, who goes for 39. That's my season in a nutshell.

I will not go down without a fight.

E Team says:

Hmm. Interesting.

First off, maybe I shouldn't have hinted that Mark consider a less than full discount. That's putting undue pressure on the man. He was promised a waiver of the entry fee based on our extreme need; we should keep our promise.

That done, let's try to evaluate Mark's thoughts on second-place money objectively, given that he is currently in second place. I agree with him that finishing second in the regular season is worth some money, but we simply don't have much.

Given the relatively small purse this season, I maintain that the value of the double jeopardy advantage, which practically guarantees a trip to the finals, is reward enough for finishing second. The runnerup in the regular season is highly likely to finish second or higher in the playoffs; that's where he cashes in.

As for lowering the regular season and scoring title money by $25 each, we have always tried to reward those winners with something as close to the get-in fee as possible. We know that winning a
championship can sometimes be something of a fluke. Not so much with finishing on top after 40 matches or winning the scoring title. Those are pretty significant achievements and should be rewarded appropriately.

If we do lower those awards, and I don't necessarily think we should, I say we bump the champion to $400.00 and give the other $25 to the regular season runnerup. That way, the second place finisher in the regular season gets a little something for his trouble even if he flames out in the playoffs.

I also think there needs to be something for the third-place winner in the playoffs. Since there is a one-match consolation round, there ought to be a reason to compete in it beyond the rather mild distinction of finishing third out of seven teams.

Still, we're talking about minor adjustments between the two proposals. Let's see where the conversation goes. We'll get it settled.

And as far as the E Team being some kind of prohibitive favorite to win the regular season and the scoring title, I don't think I've got big enough leads in either of those races to count on anything. But I know what you're doing. You're trying to jinx me. Putting a hex on me. Using voodoo. Stop that.

And, by the way, Go Packers. I choose the former Raleigh Hills Little Leaguer Aaron Rogers over the rapist Seth Rogan lookalike Roethlisberger. C'mon, a kid who grew up in Chico or some dumbshit from Ohio? Please. And I like B.J. Raji. Did you know that Raji was an outstanding high school BASKETBALL player in New Jersey? Now there's a round mound of rebound. Imagine trying to box him out.

Hoop Social said...

I favored Packers/Rogers because of Cal and Chico connections but Invaders should inform Eric that Roethligsberger's home town is Findlay Ohio a place where my father's side of the family traces its roots to the early settlement of the area around 1830..5 genarations of Mosiers are buried in maple grove cemetery there...my dad broke that tradition by moving first to New York and then California

Hoop Social said...

Invaders would like to hear other thoughts on prize money distribution-compromise on Eric's and my ideas should be easy enough

Mark, no offense to your ancestry intended.
