E Team says:

A. Johnson?!

WTF?

Every guy in the NBA has A Johnson. Maybe that's what's clouding Tom's thinking.

And here's a question. If two teams finish tied for fourth place with identical records, is points differential enough to send one to the Big Dance, or should we do a one-match playoff. Or would head-to-head matches mean anything?

I can't remember if this has ever happened before. Something makes me think it has and that we chose the playoff option, but I could be wrong.

P4-ETeam...Ticket-Caps...Invaders-Swat...Wingos-Belvedere's.....In the order in the standings match by match ties have always been broken by the higher point total being listed first so it seems to Invaders inconsistent to change that philosophy when it comes to figuring the order of finish at the end of the season

E Team says:

Mark, we've had seeding decided by points, and yes, regular season standings considerations, but we're talking about a team with an identical won-loss record after 40 matches going home on a tiebreaker.

I think we have time to devote one match period to a playoff, although some might argue that it pushes us closer to the end of the regular season, when teams start resting guys. I don't deny that.

If we do decide to use a tiebreaker, I do like points more than head-to-head, which is a more random test of what a team accomplished.

Hey, we vote whichever way we vote; I just wanted people to think about it. Maybe we try to get a five-voter quorum in by the end of the current match period.

Great question E.
I would have assumed that points where the tie breaker.
But, Not having any idea of scheduling complications, I certainly like the drama a 1 match playoff would create.

If 3 teams tie would it be a 3 team match with best score or top two advancing?

I love this!

We definitely need votes.

Wingos worry about the looming suspension for DeMarcus, so their lineup against the Killer B's is:
1-Rubio
2-Klay
3-Danilo
4-Dirk
5-Horford
U-DWill.

Ticket says
Now you like Melo
Now you like Melo
Now you like Meloooo!

Ticket votes points for a conditional reason. Besides that it should give non-point titlists a reason to step up every match, the round robin in case of a three way ties really would push the limit of available match periods if there was a tie in the playoffs later. So why use points to avoid that problem only in case of a 3-way tie? If you want one extra match for a two way tie, ok by me. Just leads to confusion for the 3 way tie scenario if there's two playoff tie breaker plans.

I'm not sure we are on the same page Tix. I was saying, if it was 3 teams then all three teams get on match highest and/or second highest advance.

But of no consequence to me if we go points, isn't that how regular season winner would be decided?

I was just looking to add some drama/

Did I see that P4's went Irving?
Yikes!

If you guys favor a one game playoff for a tie for 4th that's fine we can probably squeeze that in but to waste 2 match periods for a 3 way seems to push the schedule parameters and the meaningful games where stars aren't being rested to the edges of statistical credulity-at least that's Invader opinion

E Team says:

A three-way tie? Jeez, I guess that could happen.

I'm with Mark in that we could spare one match period and no more. A single match involving three teams if necessary? Like a jamboree? Not much like an actual NBA game, which Mark won't like, buy hey, it's only a tiebreaker. The alternative would be to just go points.

But a simple two-team, one-match playoff otherwise?

I vote yes for now, but I do admit to some unease about stretching out the schedule for the benefit of the 3 and 4 teams.

If the third and fourth-place teams have identical records, points determine the seeding, as happened with the Germans and Nitecaps in recent years. Dave's tie should prevent that.

E Team says:

And wait, does Swat still have Parker in his lineup?

Are you kidding? Is Sean lying in a ditch somewhere?

And the Germans go Kyrie? Didn't he get hurt last night? They miss that with a title on the line?

Fog of war, I guess.

E Team says:

I dunno which is worse: losing because Duncan goes for 29 in 23 minutes and then gets benched, or because he plays 35 minutes and puts up a 22.

Meanwhile my Hawes blows up SlowPez for 43.

Fine then.

Hoop Social said...

Yes. Funny. Kyrie didn't show up on injury report as of noon. Had to produce line-up early as I was busy. Okay, MRI sprain Kyrie gone. Now our 2nd overall and sixth picks gone. We'll still do our best to win matches and play with the mettle our fans expect. 5 on 6 fair v E. deep and depth. P4P4P4P4

Invaders report Sean has 2nd DNP Amare still in lineup as well!

Swat sez:

You guys know that I am usually on it when it comes to the league, but unfortunately I have had one of the worse weeks of my life, wish I could say why but I am checked back in.

UFN, I'll go Conley, Lawson, Lebron, Jefferson, MGasol, Batum

Swat sez:

You could say as E puts it I was lying in a ditch, still working my way out.
